Arrange the following molecules from least to most specific with respect to the original nucleotide sequence: RNA, DNA, Amino Acid, Protein Protein, amino acid, RNA, DNA 2. Identify two structural differences between DNA and RNA. Two structural differences between DNA and RNA would be that RNA contains ribose while DNA is missing the hydroxyl group form its ribose. Also, RNA is created by transcription of a gene locate in the cells of DNA. DNA is doubled stranded whereas RNA is single stranded. 3. The Effects Of Global Warming On The Environment - 1760 Words
It is a proven fact that when many people think about their future, they are most likely strictly considering things that will effect or benefit them or people close to them. Things such as the city that they will live or if they will have the same job five years down the road. Very few people think about what may be going on in the environment around them. Global warming, (which is also known as the greenhouse effect) is a rise in the entire temperature of the earthââ¬â¢s atmosphere. It has been receiving a lot of attention from scientists in the past few years. For the last 10,000 years, the Earth s climate has been extraordinarily beneficial to mankind. Humans have prospered tremendously well under a benign atmosphere, (Bates 28).â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦First off Global means above borders or international. Secondly Warming means an alarm that something bad will happen. For years, global warming was a scientific theory that was overlooked and disregarded by many except scientists that studied the subject. Since the 1970s, scientists discovered the earths temperature is steadily increasing, which will eventually lead to the earth facing numerous problems. The fear of these future problems were brought to the attention of the government, which led them to a sit down with scientists to try and find a way to solve this issue. The media has paid great attention to this by airing special programs about it and interviewing experts specialized in this field particularly to inform people that we as humans will all face the same consequences if we donââ¬â¢t do something about it. Society has begun to consider it a significant issue that may put our environment as well as our lives at risk. The recognition of Global warming set scientists on a mission to find out what causes this phenomena. Some of the main causes of Global Warming include air pollution, deforestation, and human activities. Scientists also discovered The Greenhouse Theory, which is kn own to cause an increase in the earth s temperature. The greenhouse effect is the process by which radiation from a planet s atmosphere warms the planet s surface to a temperature above what it would be without itââ¬â¢s atmosphere. If a

American Dream â⬠American Beauty Of Mice and Men Free Essays
Although the roots of the American Dream are founded on opportunity for all, it has become an inaccessible illusion for most. John Steinbeckââ¬â¢s novella ââ¬Å"Of mice and menâ⬠explores the fragility of this concept in a more modern context. Whereas Sam Mendezââ¬â¢s film ââ¬Å"American Beautyâ⬠uses black comedy to highlight the allusive nature of the American dream that has become perverted by an affiant society. We will write a custom essay sample on American Dream ââ¬â American Beauty Of Mice and Men or any similar topic only for you Order Now Both of these texts expose a reality that reveals the isolation and loneliness experienced from pursuing American dream. George and Lenny both shared ââ¬Å"The American Dreamâ⬠of owning their own small farm house. However they too were unable to grasp the reality when their dream became crushed by societyââ¬â¢s expectations. ââ¬ËSome day ââ¬â weââ¬â¢re gonna get the jack together and weââ¬â¢re gonna have a little house and a couple of acres anââ¬â¢ a cow and some pigs and ââ¬âââ¬Ë, George and Lenny constantly repeats this phrase continuously throughout the novella, as their personal ambition and aim. It was this specific phrase that allowed our two protagonists to differentiate from others, it gave our protagonists hope as they were unique from all other farm workers ââ¬ËGuys like us, that work on ranches are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They donââ¬â¢t belong no place. They come to a ranch anââ¬â¢ work up a stake and then they go inta town and blow their stake, and the first thing you know theyââ¬â¢re poundinââ¬â¢ their tail on some other ranchââ¬â¢. Knowing that they were different from all other farm workers they motivated themselves to believe that they were able to obtain what others could not, as they were different from everyone else ââ¬ËThey ainââ¬â¢t got nothing to look ahead toââ¬â¢ â⬠¦ ââ¬ËBut not us! ââ¬â¢ Anââ¬â¢ why? Because â⬠¦ Because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and thatââ¬â¢s whyââ¬â¢. Our two protagonists can closely compared with the mouse in Robert Burns Poem ââ¬Å"To a Mouseâ⬠. The mouse within Burns poems lived on a farm very similar to Lennie and George. Through hard work the mouse creates a home, which was ultimately destroyed by the farmer. The rodents that Lennie often carried around symbolises how fragile they really were, being crushed by Lennieââ¬â¢s petting. The American Dream was supposedly founded on the belief that it was a dream for all and that everyone had an equal chance. However Steinbeckââ¬â¢s choice of emphasizing both the fragility and the selective nature of the American Dream crushes Lenny and George indefinitely. Steinbeck highlights the allusive nature of the American dream by using alienated and lonely characters who are shown to be unable to fulfil their dream. Crooks is a black man who was shunned from society merely because of his colour and race. Unable to belong with the rest of the other characters, he is often shown alone. When Lennie first confronts Crooks, Crook turned his vulnerability against Lennie and lied about George never returning, suggesting that George will never return. He plays a cruel game with Lennie, suggesting to him that George is gone for good. Only when Lennie threatens him with physical violence does he relent. Crooks exhibits the corrosive effects that loneliness can have on a person; his character evokes sympathy as the origins of his cruel behavior are made evident. Perhaps what Crooks wants more than anything else is a sense of belongingââ¬âto enjoy simple pleasures such as the right to enter the bunkhouse or to play cards with the other men. This desire would explain why, even though he has reason to doubt George and Lennieââ¬â¢s talk about the farm that they want to own, Crooks cannot help but ask if there might be room for him to come along and hoe in the garden. Similarly, Curlyââ¬â¢s wife also had an ambition to be a movie star and famous. Near the start of the novella, Curlyââ¬â¢s wife was shown to be a ââ¬Å"trampâ⬠or ââ¬Å"tartâ⬠, however as the novella progresses, her lust for attention grows. This desire is shown by her confrontation with other men, even though Curly had told her not to. The lack of attention that the other characters and the story gave her is further emphasised by Steinbeckââ¬â¢s decision of disallowing her a name. Curly wifeââ¬â¢s is also another character that demonstrated loneliness, however, unlike other characters, she had little significance. Similarly Sam Mendez also produces unique individuals within ââ¬Å"American Beautyâ⬠, each having their own dreams and ambitions, to demonstrate the allusion that the American dream is for everyone. The Burnhamââ¬â¢s in particular were bitter and confined even though they were shown to have ââ¬Å"Everythingâ⬠: a house, a car, a family. Even though the Burnhams had the depicted everything, they did not appear to be content with their life. Lester Burnham, the protagonist, has been slowly deteriorating from the typical patriarchal household. Lester is often showed to be confined within himself shut of from other characters. During the first office scene, Lesterââ¬â¢s reflection upon the computer is shown behind green bars of text. Even Lester himself admits that he loser living the same boring life every day. At the beginning of the movie Lester starts of narrating, ââ¬Å"In a way Iââ¬â¢m dead alreadyâ⬠. During the first dinner scene after Lester walks into the kitchen, Lester tells Jane ââ¬Å"Sometimes Jane you donââ¬â¢t have to wait for me to come to you. You can come to meâ⬠however Janeââ¬â¢s response was different from the typical families creating a sunse of unrealistic expectation of what a family should be. When Lester is in the shower, he is also confined within the small shower cubicle. It wasnââ¬â¢t until Lester reverted back to the consumption of pot that he starts challenging everyone, breaking away from the accumulating confinement. At this point Lester breaks away from the facade that he was unworthy, gaining independence. Caroline on the other hand is taken in by the desire for success. Even though Caroline had everything that the American dream states, she continues to long for more. This shows how the American Dream is continuously filled with wants and desires. When Lester and Caroline were alone in the living room Caroline gets distracted by Lester nearly spilling beer on the coach. Lester tells her ââ¬Å"This isnââ¬â¢t life. This is just stuff. And this stuff has become more important to you than living. â⬠Both Mendez and Steinbeck imply through their texts that The American Dream is merely a facade and an allusion that anyone can obtain. However, the selective nature of the dream restricts various people from pursuing this happiness. How to cite American Dream ââ¬â American Beauty Of Mice and Men, Essay examples

Flushed free essay sample
I blush a lot. When someone compliments me or a stranger approaches me, I know exactly what they are looking at. Theyââ¬â¢re watching my face grow the shade of a sunburn from the Sahara Desert. Theyââ¬â¢re watching as every single erythrocyte in my body floods to my cheeks, rushes around my nose, and fills my forehead. I imagine itââ¬â¢s like watching a glass fill with tomato juice. The only difference being, I am the glass. I am a very, very transparent glass. For as long as I can remember, the slightest hint of flirting, a compliment, or meeting someone new has always painted my face a very obvious shade of red. And it was crippling. Especially when I got to high school, I would hold back from introducing myself to new people or starting a conversation with a cute boy or looking someone in the eye as they said something kind and flattering. We will write a custom essay sample on Flushed or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I didnââ¬â¢t want them to get the wrong vibe from the process of my face turning the cute shade of an Exit sign. Iââ¬â¢m not even a shy person. Iââ¬â¢m not socially awkward; I just blush a lot. I love volunteering in class, reading out loud, and conversing with new people when weââ¬â¢re given group assignments, but I donââ¬â¢t love that I look like I am running a marathon while doing so. My senior year presented me with amazing opportunities. I started an internship where I bring patients into exam rooms and ask them questions about their health, take their vital signs, and prepare them to be seen by their physician. I took a class called Honors Advanced Writing, where sharing essays out loud was required. I also started to get a modest amount of attention from local sports websites, where I was interviewed about my team and our success. These opportunities forced me to confront my blushing head on. There was no way I was going to let this internship slip through my fingers because I was worried about giving a patient a weird vibe. So what if I was blushing while taking their pulse? I wouldnââ¬â¢t allow myself to do poorly in Honors Advanced Writing due to fear that the class would judge me if I blushed while reading my essay. Thatââ¬â¢s my GPA weââ¬â¢re talking about! And it would be so petty of me to decline interviews for my team because I was embarrassed of blushing on camera or in front of the interviewers. I wasnââ¬â¢t going to let a few million red blood cells ââ¬â however embarrassing they may be ââ¬â hinder my growth and learning. I dove into all those high school sports interviews with a vermilion face because I was proud to show off my team and our athletic success. I took all those patientsââ¬â¢ blood pressure while my own skyrocketed and asked them all about their rash ointment because I want to be a nurse. And I read all of my Honors Writing essays out loud in front of my classmates because I care about my grade. As a freshman I would avoid any hallway that might contain an attractive male, to spare myself the transformation from girl to pomegranate-with-limbs. Now when guys introduce themselves to me, I just say, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m Shannon, and I blush a lot.â⬠Some laugh. Others tell me itââ¬â¢s cute, so I blush some more and start a conversation so they donââ¬â¢t assume Iââ¬â¢m blushing because Iââ¬â¢m shy. Yes, I still blush all the time, but because of the opportunities Iââ¬â¢ve had during my senior year, Iââ¬â¢ve learned to never hold back because of fear or worry that I will be judged for it. Besides, everyone loves a natural glow.

Gestalt Case Example Essays - Karen People, Gestalt Therapy
Gestalt Case Example KAREN: Anxiety over choosing for herself Assume the perspective of a Gestalt therapist, and show how you would proceed with Karen, a 27-year-old Asian American who is struggling with value conflicts pertaining to her religion, culture, and sex-role expectations. Here is what she has related to you during the first session. Throughout her life Karen has identified herself as a good Catholic who has not questioned much of her upbringing. She has never really seen herself as an independent woman; in many ways she feels like a child, one who is strongly seeking approval and directions from those whom she considers authorities. Karen tells you that in her culture she was taught to respect and honor her parents, teachers, priests, and other elders. Whenever she tries to assert her own will, if it differs from the expectations of any authority figure, she experiences guilt and self-doubt. She went to Catholic schools, including college, and she has followed the morals and teachings of her church very closely. She has not been married, nor has she even had a long-term relationship with a man. Karen has not had sexual intercourse, not because she has not wanted to but because she is afraid that she could not live with herself and her guilt. She feels very restricted by the codes she lives by, and in many ways s he sees them as rigid and unrealistic. Yet she is frightened of breaking away from what she was taught, even though she is seriously questioning much of its validity and is aware that her views on morality are growing more and more divergent from those that she at one time accepted. Basically, Karen asks: What if I am wrong? Who am I to decide what is moral and immoral? Ive always been taught that morals are clear-cut and do not allow for individual conveniences. I find it difficult to accept many of the teachings of my church, but Im not able to really leave behind those notions that I dont accept. What if there is a hell, and Ill be damned forever if I follow my own path? What if I discover that I go wild and thus lose any measure of self-respect? Will I be able to live with my guilt if I dont follow the morality Ive been taught? Karen is also struggling with the impact of cultural restraints on her view of what it means to be a woman. Generally, she sees herself as being dependent, unassertive, fearful of those in authority, emotionally reserved, socially inhibited, and unable to make decisions about her life. Although she thinks that she would like to be more assertive and would like to feel freer to be herself around people, she is highly self-conscious and hears voices in her head that tell her how she should and should not be. She wishes she could be different in some important respects, but she wonders if she is strong enough to swim against what she has learned from her culture, her parents, and her church. Assume that Karen is coming for a series of counseling sessions in a community clinic. You know the above information about her, and what she wants from you is help in sorting out what she really believes about living a moral life versus what she has been told is the moral way to be. She says that she would like to learn how to trust herself and, in essence, have the courage to know her convictions and live by them. At the same time, she feels unable to act on her values, for fear that she will be wrong. How would you proceed with her? 1.What do you see as Karens basic conflict? How would you summarize the nature of her struggle? 2.Do you think that in some ways she might be looking to you as another authority figure to tell her that it is all right for her to reject some of the moral codes she was taught and to follow her own? How might you test out this possibility? How could you help her without becoming another source of either approval or disapproval for her? 3.This case raises a number of key issues for you to consider,

hawthorne studies essays
hawthorne studies essays The Hawthorne studies, initially undertaken to investigate the relationship between work-place conditions and worker productivity, introduced a wide range of topics to the field of management study. Investigators found no strong relationship between workplace conditions and productivity but reached several conclusions: individual work behavior is driven by a complex set of factors; work groups develop norms which mediate between the needs of the individual and institution; employees should not be considered appendages of machinery; awareness of employee sentiments and participation can reduce resistance to change; the workplace is an interlocking social system, not simply a production system; social structure maintained through symbols of prestige and power. These findings opened the door to the study of client-centered therapy, small group behavior, and organization theory and research methodology. The Hawthorne studies represented groundbreaking work in the field of management when they were undertaken in 1924. While the original intention of the studies was to determine the effect of workplace conditions on employee productivity, in line with the Tay-lorist view of management of that day their findings addressed topics far a field from physical work conditions. These findings opened the doors to a wide range of topics in the study of management. Focus eventually shifted away from the time and motion studies made popular by Taylor to the influence of management style and worker motivation. The move away from scientific management represented a paradigm shift. While the Hawthorne studies were not undertaken with the intention of developing new areas of management theory, and as such did not provide definitive evidence on the factors they uncovered, they were still revolutionary for their time. Expecting to find evidence to support the idea of an optimal physical work environment, researchers instead discovered that the physica...

Global Supply Chain Management - Essay Example Apple was the pioneer in the mobile industry to give the facility of an Ecosystem to their customers. An ecosystem is connecting the company and its features with customers by means of a computer network. By using this technology, Apple was able to be connected with its remote vendors and buyers and giving them flexibility and choice in acquiring the companyââ¬â¢s facilities and products. An important purpose the ecosystem serves for the Apple Inc is in the inventory management by keeping a check of the demand to supply ratio of the product. To reach the global market, the company has to have a very good estimation of number buyers interest and the number of suppliers or distributors. In addition to this, it also helps in maintaining customer trust and loyalty, by keeping in direct touch with the merchandisers. Apple included the features of apps download, iTunes and many other logistics in its cloud computing network. Again this was the management strategy which saved the company from investing in help centers or customer service departments. This simplifies the process of the supply chain, where the management can easily access the data of customer visits, downloads, complaints, and feedback. This speeds up the process of filtering of information and enabled managers to make decisions regarding product advancement or improvement before customers are bored or annoyed with the product(Blaisdell 2012). It is certain that the growing fame and wide acceptance of Apple iPhones and their other devices bring the challenge of delivering devices to various distributors, and not knowing exactly how many have been sold. Moreover, the procedure for purchase for high consumers is also complicated and slow, where the supplier first reports to the main distribution unit before making a large order. Managing the supply and purchase rate efficiently is one of the prime challenges a company faces in launching the product globally.Ã

Difference between Judicial activism and Judicial restraint Essay
Difference between Judicial activism and Judicial restraint - Essay Example In Judicial restraint, the Supreme Court, as well as the judges from other lower courts occasionally, construe to the constitution in a manner that the policies placed by the Federal Government and the state governments are always taken into consideration (Lowi et.al, 2012). This implies that the decisions arrived at by the judges should acknowledge the limits of power of those in authority. Judicial activism, on the other hand, does not recognize the limits of power. This is major because the judges tend to construe the Constitution based on their own philosophies, which is a practice that many times results in interpretive fidelity.I believe the US Supreme Court should embrace judicial restraint rather than judicial activism. This is major because, in as much as we subject the judges of our land to quality and inclusive training, decisions should normally be arrived on based on what is entrenched in the Constitution. In addition, judicial activism, which allows judges to arrive at decisions based on their own perceptions may result in laws being manipulated to satisfy the interests of given individuals. In addition, an unconstitutional practice, which if left unattended to, would render our constitution useless with time.An example of a case where judicial restraint was duly practiced was District of Columbia vs. Heller case, which was decided in 2008 after a nine-year duration (Lowi Ginsberg, Shepsle, & Ansolabehere, 2012). The matter of contention in the case was whether the D.C code.

Nuclear Power- Should it be Banned?
Nuclear Power- Should it be Banned? The title question of my case study is: Should Nuclear Power be Banned?. I have chosen this question as I believe it is a key topic at this present moment in life, with a lot of information about it in the media, such as on the news and in the papers each day. Also it is something that will affect the life in which we live in the future. So because of these reasons it is something that people need to be aware of and need to actually understand what nuclear power is and how it is affecting us or is going to affect us in the years to come. One major problem that could occur with nuclear power is that there is always the risk that there could be a leakage of radioactive fluids, which will have a massive impact on the environment and its surroundings. These radioactive fluids that may leak from the power stations can cause cancers and very harmful illnesses in humans. So for this reason people will believe that yes, nuclear power should be banned, especially those people living around or near a nuclear power station, or those that have close relatives that may be affected if something like this were to happen. A reason against banning Nuclear power is that it provides a lot of our energy sources, and can be used to generate electricity and to power ships, so therefore we need nuclear power to continue doing these things, and if we were to get rid of it then we would only have to resort to finding another way of providing this energy, which is only going to cost even more money, on top of what wed already be paying to get rid of the nuclear power plants that exist at this moment in time.. Without the use of the ships that are powered by the nuclear power, we would have a lot of difficulty in transporting goods such as food and material from one place to another. It is in the Nuclear fission where the Uranium is used, this starts off the process for nuclear power to be generated. Nuclear fission is the process of atoms splitting, so when a heavy nucleus such as Uranium splits into two smaller, lighter nuclei. In this reaction, the strong nuclear force which is the attractive force, is acting on the electrostatic force which is the repulsive force, these can be knocked out of balance on each other when they gain the energy from either a photon or a neutron. The two forces are affected by the gain of this other element and will try to act on each other to regain the state in which they were in, but in nuclear fission the electrostatic force will gain more power than the nuclear force, therefore causing it to repel and for the nucleus to split apart, also releasing energy as it does so. To make this slightly easier to understand, imagine a load of marbles in a rough circle shape on a flat tabletop (this is going to be representing the original atoms nucleus, where all the forcing are acting the same on one another and are equal, so all the marbles/atoms are stable). What if I were to then throw or roll another marble into this group of stable marbles? All the marbles would spread apart and move out into the space around them, this marble that is being rolled into them is acting as the photon or neutron that is being gained in the nucleus. This is unbalancing the forces and causing the atoms to all move around as they react to the change that is taking place, but seeing as all the marbles move out, and away from each other shows to us that the repelling force has gained more control, as the attractive force wasnt able to keep them all together, and this is exactly what happens in nuclear fission. Saying that, although there isnt much waste being produced, that that is produced is extremely dangerous and would have to be stored, sealed up and buried for thousands of years to allow the radioactivity to die away. During this time it has to be kept far away from any potential natural disasters such as Earthquakes, Volcanic eruptions, flooding and terrorist attacks. This can be very difficult at times. The worlds worst nuclear accident occurred after an explosion and fire at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. It released radiation over much of Europe. Thirty-one people died in the immediate aftermath of the explosion. Hundreds of thousands of residents were moved from the area and a similar number are believed to have suffered from the effects of radiation exposure. As you can see already from this 31 innocent people died from a nuclear power accident, thats hundreds of people left without a family member, and what if this was to happen again, but this time it could be even worse, and possibly even more people killed. Also from this event, thousands and thousands of people were once again exposed to the radiation which can cause cancerous cells in our bodies, which could lead to a number of deaths years down the line, all from this one accident that happened because of nuclear power. -This website is a university website, which is very factual and all its points appear to be logical and true, also the fact that its scientists writing the points and information only gives us more reason to believe its true and reliable. Many risks are taken when using nuclear power, there is always the risk of a meltdown occurring, or even a leakage of radioactive waste. There is also a risk to the workers safety and well-being as storing waste from nuclear reactors can be a problem in some cases. A nuclear meltdown is when the cooling systems fail, and the nuclear reactors reach such a temperature that they melt straight through the reactor or damage the reactor wall. With this melting, then allows the spread of radioactivity, which as before can cause great damage in the human body. There is also the chance of contamination within the environment if there was to be a leakage of radioactive waste in that area. Radioactive waste, if gotten into the workers at a nuclear power plant, can also poison them, which furthermore, would take their life. Against Nuclear Power Banning On the other hand, there are also many reasons as to why people believe that nuclear power shouldnt be banned, some of which are listed below; Nuclear power generation does emit relatively low amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2). The emissions of green house gases and therefore the contribution of nuclear power plants to global warming is therefore relatively little. This technology is readily available; it does not have to be developed first. It is possible to generate a high amount of electrical energy in one single plant. -I think that this is a reliable website to get information from as it is based on the pros and cons of nuclear power, and what needs to be done to make a change, and what needs to stay the same. It cannot be edited or changed by anyone other than the creators, and the creators are have done a lot of research to make the website to the high standard of what it is now. In 2005, approximately 6.3% of the earths energy supply relied on nuclear power, and gradually over the years, this has increased slightly to 14% in 2009. It also provided 15% of the worlds electricity in 2005 and again in 2009. If we were to ban nuclear power then there would have to be other ways in which this supply of electricity was formed, and therefore more money is going to have to be spent out in order for this supply of electricity. As you can see from the statements above, it clearly states that nuclear power can generate a lot of electrical energy in just one single plant, and with there being 440 plants across the world; this would cost an awful lot of money to get rid of and then replace the energy and electricity in which it supplies us with. Nuclear power also provides for ships and submarines, which we need to transport food and goods from country to country, without these ships we would have to find another way of transporting the items, say if we were to use a plane for example, then this would only be adding to global warming which is another issue known world-wide. -I believe this graph to be a reliable source of evidence as it is from a website specifically focused on the use of nuclear power all over the world, in various different countries. Also it is not biased in any way, and it completely based on facts and figures rather than opinions, so therefore this is a reliable piece of information to be used in this case study. As you can see from the graph above, most of the large MEDC (More Economically Developed) countries reply on nuclear power as a source of energy and electricity. Although there are other ways of them getting their energy supply, with the loss of nuclear power, they would only have to increase one or more of their other supplies in order to make up for what they have lost from the lack of nuclear power. Conclusion SHOULD NUCLEAR POWER BE BANNED? Taking into account both sides of the argument, we can see that there are many reasons for nuclear power being banned, just as well as reasons for nuclear power to not be banned. The main reason that people believe nuclear power should be banned is that there is always the risk of a spillage of nuclear gases, or a leak in the power stations, which would have a great impact on humans health. The main reason as too why nuclear power shouldnt be banned is that it provides a huge amount of the worlds energy and electricity source. As you can see from the for and against arguments on the previous pages, I think that overall the benefit of nuclear power outweighs the risk so therefore nuclear power SHOULDNT be banned, and I think this becauseto get rid of all the nuclear power stations over the world would cost an awful lot of money for the governments and thats money that could be put to a better use elsewhere. Also after paying out to get rid of the nuclear power plants throughout the earth, we would then also have to pay for other methods of providing the electricity and energy resources that these plants provided, it would be easier and more efficient to just spend the money into finding more ways in which we can prevent a leakage at a power plant and how we would handle such a situation, if another one were to occur. Nuclear power plays too big a role in everyday life, we just take it for granted and dont actually realise how much we do rely on it. Furthermore, as for the number of deaths that have occurred from nuclear power accidents; there are so many things nowadays that could kill people, we just try not to look at them in that way, for instance there could be a massive pile-up on a motorway and kill a numerous amount of drivers, passengers and general citizens, but that doesnt mean that people are going to stop driving does it? So why should nuclear power be banned because of the risk of there being a fault that could cause deaths among humans? The workers in nuclear power plants, are fully aware of the risks they take every day and the risks of the radiation, but safety measures are in place to protect these workers from getting harmed, and they are trained of what to do in the case of emergency, so therefore its entirely down to them to do the job or not, at no point are they being forced to work under such conditions that are putting themselves at risk.

Reasons I am Pro-choice Essay --
ââ¬Å"God send us someone to cure cancer, AIDS, etc., etc.â⬠ââ¬Å"I did but you aborted them.â⬠Abortion is a very serious topic that is separated by two groups pro-life or pro-choice who often argue on what is fair. Pro-choice is the people who believe it is the womanââ¬â¢s choice to choose if she wants an abortion or not. They donââ¬â¢t think the fetus is a human until a certain point in the pregnancy. Pro-life is when people believe that getting an abortion is killing a human being with rights. They want abortion to be illegal whether the woman wants one or not. Even though some say that having an abortion is killing an innocent baby and that it brings on many problems later in life, many pregnant women are not ready to have a child and some just do not want kids and they should have the right to get an abortion. If abortion was made illegal many would turn to ââ¬Å"back-alley abortionsâ⬠which are done in unsafe ways and it could result in more fatalitie s. It is common for anti-choicer to claim that having an abortion can lead to many complications in the future. Some say that having an abortion if you have been pregnant before increases the chances of breast cancer significantly but research found that this was not true. It is also said that having an abortion can lead to several disorders like depression, being bipolar and abuse of drugs and alcohol. Although it is a possibility, the original test was faulty because the subjects were not screened before hand to see if they already had the disorders. Others may say that an abortion is more dangerous that giving birth even when preformed by a professional. In reality, carrying a pregnancy to turn can be 10 times more dangerous than having an abortion but having an abortion still has itââ¬â¢s risk. In ... ...to many problems in the future but if abortion was illegal it would only worsen the conditions and number of fatalities. The complications that are given are often untrue and used to try and make a women change her decision. Young women get pregnant and often do not want the child because they are still getting their life in order and planning for the future. Other women may not want children because of the money, time, and responsibility needed to take care of a child. If in the future abortions are made illegal the amount of deaths because of unsafe abortion methods used when a women is desperate for one. ââ¬Å"God send us someone to cure cancer, AIDS, etc., etc.â⬠ââ¬Å"I did but you forced her to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term, forcing her to become a single mother with limited income, having to sacrifice her college dreams in order to provide for her unwanted child.ââ¬

Jaga vs. D
In its Bath Star Judgment, the Constitutional Court referred to the interpretive approach followed in the Gaga v Dà ¶ones, a notorious case from the asses. In this essay, I argue that the recent comments by the Constitutional Court about the case clearly show that the Gaga judgment Is no longer relevant to the Interpretation of statutes after the democratic transformation. The facts of the Gaga case The Gaga case was a notorious case which occurred in the early sass's. Gaga being the accused in this case, as he was caught selling inwrought gold which is illegal. It was hen decided by the jury that he would be sentenced to ââ¬Å"three months imprisonment suspended for three yearsâ⬠. Section 22 of Act 22 of 1913 read as follows: ââ¬Å"Any person who has been sentenced to imprisonment for any offence committed by the sale of inwrought precious metal and who is deemed by the minister to be an undesirable inhabitant of the union may be removed from the union under a warrantâ⬠. Therefore Gaga was declared as being an undesirable Inhabitant and a warrant for his deportation to India was Issued. Gaga challenged this because he declared that he had not been sentenced to Imprisonment. The molester had argued this point made by Gaga by stating that even though it is a ââ¬Å"suspended sentence of imprisonmentâ⬠, it is still a sentence of imprisonment. Gaga once again argued saying that he was not physically sentenced to imprisonment. The dominant interpretive approach before 1994 as followed by the majority in Gaga. The textual approach which was used in 1950 when the Gaga case had taken place, is an approach to interpretation which was used In majority of the cases before 1994 (which was when South African came a democratic country). This is an approach hereby legislation Is Interpreted simply Just by the way It Is written. It focuses on the grammar used In the text or In legislation rather than the actual content of the case-The text base approach refers to the literal meaning of the text. There are many variations of rules of interpretation which occur under the textual approach. The primary rule of the textual approach being, ââ¬Å"that if the ordinary or plain meaning of the words in a legislative provision is clear, that meaning must be appliedâ⬠.While ordinary citizens look at the everyday meaning of legislation, the courts look at the lain meaning of the text of the cases in this approach of interpretation. The golden rule of this method states that only if a specific wording of legislation is ambiguous and has more than one meaning in the dictionary. Also if the ordinary meaning leads to such absurd results, it will be Impossible to use the actual words In legislation to Interpret any case at all because by the courts applying the plain meaning of the text It would lead to them reaching a decision which would be rather Irrational. In these circumstances where the actual text cannot be used or ciphered from correctly then the court can turn to a number of secondary aids. Information other than the wording of the specific section. These aids are called internal and external aids. Internal aids include : ââ¬Å"the same legislative text in another official language, the preamble, the long title, the definition clause, legislative purpose statements, interpretation guidelines, headings to chapters and sections, paragraphing and punctuations and schedules. ââ¬Å".External aids such as the constitution and the bill of rights can also be used when the text isn't clear and sufficient enough to come to a final decision or conclusion. In the case of Gaga the literal meaning of Section 22 of Act 22 of 1913 was applied because it did state that any offender would be considered as being an undesirable inhabitant and would be sentenced to imprisonment and this was exactly what happened to Gaga. No other facts of the case were taken into consideration and nothing was investigated thoroughly or further, therefore I feel this approach is rather orthodox and is not relevant to be used currently. It was Just simply the literal meaning of the act taken into consideration here. The court insisted on the plain literal meaning and applied it o the Gaga case, it was a decision that was simply to make and so Gaga was issued with a warrant for his deportation to India and sentenced to three months of imprisonment, suspended for three years. This approach is a very narrow approach and I feel it doesn't really give an accurate indication of anything because there are very few texts that are actually clear enough whereby the court can actually reach one final interpretation of the legislature. In this approach the court also has very ââ¬Å"little law-making capacity'. In my opinion this approach is no longer valid and should to be used as there is very little to actually work with, it isn't open minded and will not help reach the best verdict. The alternative interpretive approach followed by the minorit y in Gaga This refers to the contextual (purposive) approach or also can be called text-in-context approach. This approach has been used even before 1994 in certain cases from time to time. This approach however has been overshadowed by the textual approach. In this approach ââ¬Å"the context of legislation, including social and political policy directions Is also taken into account to establish the purpose of legislationâ⬠. Here the mischief rule is used. This rule makes use of external aids which include â⬠the common law, whatever new remedies the legislature provides, and the true reason for the remedies. This approach provides ââ¬Å"a balance between grammatical and the overall contextual meaningâ⬠.This approach takes into consideration the actual scope of the legislation and not Just the plain text or the grammatical meaning like the textual approach does. The court has a creative law making function when interpreting legislation. However this does not mean tha t the court gets to take over completely by paving all the legislative power. The interpretation process is not complete until ââ¬Å"the object of the scope of the legislation is taken into accountâ⬠. This is yet another reason as to why the new interpretive approach or rather the contextual approach is relevant to be used now rather than the textual approach. In certain cases sometimes the wider context could prove to be more vital than the actual legislative text. In this approach firstly the meaning of the text and the context needs to be determined, once this is done the second step is to apply this when interpreting. Bath star case. Section 39(2) of the constitution contains a provision dealing with ordinary statutory interpretation. The constitution being the supreme law of South Africa, it is only right that it is referred to when interpreting legislation. Section 39(2) implies that even where the ordinary meaning of the legislation is clear and unambiguous, the interpre ter must still try to ascribe the meaning to those words that will best promote telecast one identifiable value enshrined in the bill of rightsâ⬠. The Bath star case was a case about the allocation of quotas in the fishing industry. The number of fish that's allowed to be caught when deep sea fishing is limited by the quota system. The quota which each fishing trawler is allowed to catch is determined by the minister of environmental affairs and tourism in terms of the Marine living resources Act 18 of 1998.The Bath Star fishing company lodged a complaint that the quota which they had been allocated for the year was too small. Len section 2 of the marine living resources act there is a list of objectives given and it states that the minister must ââ¬Å"have regard toâ⬠these objectives when quotas are being allocated. In this case Bath Star argued that only the textual approach was used because the ordinary meaning of the phrase ââ¬Å"have regard toâ⬠was construed by the courts to mean ââ¬Å"bear in mindâ⬠or ââ¬Å"do not overlookâ⬠.In the statement made by the court they accepted that this was true. The phrase should have been looked into according to the context that it occurred in. Therefore the contextual meaning had to be looked into and not Just the textual approach because it is no longer relevant that Just the ordinary text or meaning of the words be taken into account, but in the new interpretive approach it is ââ¬Å"the repose of legislation and the values of the constitutionâ⬠that needs to be examined before any kind of decision is reached or before finalizing the verdict. The Bath Star case is a perfect example of why the textual approach is not recommended for use in this day and age where everything has now become more complicated and needs to be thoroughly interpreted so nobody feels that they have been cheated in any way. Words and phrases have a way of being misunderstood so therefore facts need to be collec ted when handling such cases and this can only be done when the purposive teeth is used.By this case it is also made clear that â⬠the primary and golden rules of textual interpretation do not apply in our law anymoreâ⬠Conclusion The supremacy of the constitution has overturned the interpretive approach to the contextual method of interpretation. I believe this was done so simply because it is proved that it is indeed the most appropriate and accurate approach to use when interpreting legislation. The text and context of the legislation as well as law cases must be balanced and it not Just be the text that's taken into consideration therefore he Judgment used in Gaga case can no longer be used for the interpretation of statutes after the democratic transformation.I believe there are far too many weaknesses in the textual approach as it leads to many misunderstandings which creates further problems and disrupts normality, this is evident in both the Gaga and perspectives an d therefore I do not support the textual approach used in the Gaga case as it only takes in the literal meaning of the text into consideration and ignores all other aspects. The contextual approach is thus the method which should be applied.

Media Representations and Popular Fears of Crime
Is there a relationship between media representations and popular fears of crime? Illustrate your answer with contemporary examples. In society today, the media affects most peopleââ¬â¢s lives in one way or another. The extent of this effect however, varies depending on the individuals themselves. Popular fears of crime, is a term which is used to describe what kind of crimes scare people in the sense of being a victim of that crime and what it is about particular crimes which make citizens feel un-safe.Some of the crimes that people are most fearful of are not the most popular of crimes though, which questions why they are feared the most and does the media have a part to play in this? There are many factors which come into account when thinking about popular fears of crime. Each person will have a different view as to what they fear, depending on their own thoughts or feelings and also their social groups. While fear of crime can be differentiated into public feelings, thoughts and behaviors about the personal risk of criminal victimization, distinctions can also be made between the tendency to see situations as fearful, the actual experience while in those situations, and broader expressions about the cultural and social significance of crime and symbols of crime in people's neighborhoods and in their daily, symbolic livesâ⬠Gabriel, U. ;amp; Greve, W. (2003). The psychology of fear of crime: Conceptual and methodological perspectives.British Journal of Criminology, 43, 600-614. Fears also tend to be similar amongst similar groups of gender/age or ethnicity. Among young women, there is a popular fear of sexual assault or rape occurring, and although this crime can happen to men it doesnââ¬â¢t tend to be a fear which they have. Different races may have a fear of racial abuse from a different ethnic group, mothers everywhere could fear for child abuse to happen to their own children, and elderly people tend to fear groups of young people, despite if they are committing an actual crime or not.A survey carried out in Wokingham, England showed that the most popular fear of crime was young people hanging around the streets as well as dangerous driving. Although this may be the case, this shows that statistically the likelihood of the survey being answered by the older generation to be very high, however it does outline that age can be a strong factor in differentiation of fear.A fear which happens rarely, but seems to be a popular one, is terrorism. Although we hear about this more often nowadays, it is not a crime which happens as regularly as other crimes occurring in the UK and world today. Itââ¬â¢s a more recent ââ¬Å"fearâ⬠which came to light mainly after the 9/11 incident in the USA. This is a crime, which is of fear to everyone regardless of any factors, because it can happen to anyone and does happen in society today.

LOGISTICS & SUPPLY CHAIN MGMT assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
LOGISTICS & SUPPLY CHAIN MGMT - Assignment Example Anticipatory model, a traditional model, was based on predictions which were used by organizations as the purchasing behavior of consumers was not obtainable and partnerships were not working together. Thus, the predictions pursued by retailers, wholesalers, distributors and manufacturers led to surplus inventory in the market. This lead to a huge probability of misjudgment of consumer demands which was replicated by all companies. Response based model decreases the effects of dependence on anticipations by mutual discussion and instant communication amongst the partners. This helps in obtaining accurate information and rapid fulfillment of consumer demands. Unlike anticipatory model lesser expenses help to finish the process speedily with huge levels of customization. Technological advances have enhanced the response rate. It not only increases the consumer contentment but also lessens the

The American Civil War as a period of killing and loss for the Essay
The American Civil War as a period of killing and loss for the American nation - Essay Example The paper tells that losses were incurred on the population of the South, North as well as the African Americans during the Civil War. The experience of death and suffering spread as a plague during the period of war. The concept of dying in honor and killing was changed and it is for this reason that the American society and the government today place high respect for those who die in civil service. Before this war, most of the Americans had died at home with their families. When this war started, men mainly had to go to the fields preparing themselves to die in honor as their religion suggested. This led to a psychological adjustment of finding someone on the battlefield who could pass their message to the kin if they were to die a good death. The Civil War resulted in a large number of deaths and altered many important aspects of the life of the North, South as well as the African Americans. The present research has identified that the consequences of the American civil war were u nimaginable for both the sides that are the North, as well as the South but the people from the South, suffered greatly. This is because the Southern side did not have much of capacity both in terms of wealth and power. Despite its reduced strength, the Southerners initially thought that they were strong enough to take over North and would be able to conquer it easily. As a result of this lack of judgment, South lost more of its people. Ã
